About me
I am an economist at the Austrian Institute of Economic Research (WIFO) in Vienna and a Ph.D. candidate at the Vienna University of Economics and Business (WU), where I also teach.
My research is on international trade and trade policy, economic sanctions, and geoeconomics. I study how sanctions regimes shape trade and macroeconomic outcomes across countries and sectors, working mainly with structural gravity (PPML) models and high-dimensional fixed-effects estimation on dyadic panel data.
A large part of my work is building the empirical infrastructure that policy research depends on. I am a core member of the Global Sanctions Data Base (GSDB) team — an open international panel dataset used by researchers, governments, and financial institutions — where I contribute to primary data collection, sanctions coding, codebook documentation, and the reproducible pipeline behind Releases 4 and 5. I am also a member of the Research Centre International Economics (FIW).
From January to May 2026 I was a visiting researcher at the School of Economics, Drexel University, in Philadelphia.
Alongside my research I teach the undergraduate course Databases and Methods of Empirical Economic Research at WU, covering relational databases, SQL, and applied empirical workflows.
My work has appeared in The World Economy and Perspektiven der Wirtschaftspolitik, as well as in policy reports for wiiw and the Austrian National Bank. I also write for wider audiences, including CEPR/VoxEU, the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung, and profil.
